No Hiking at San Gorgonio via Vivian Creek序 不是游记。分析问题,不可重蹈覆辙。 正文 原计划蹭UCLA ZJUer们的Hiking。本来一切顺利,坚持每天跑步外加隔三差五游泳有段时间,正要扛着从好友们那儿搜罗来的价值几百块的hiking装备奔赴LA与大部队汇合,突然发现钱包失踪,紧急在大脑里全文检索,立刻发现是今天加完油后放在车顶忘了放回车里。可怜我每次开车前必检查钥匙,钱包,证件,车胎,车灯和离合系统,这回脑子进水。无奈只好急忙打遍客服把所有卡停掉,拿着备用的零钱和Gift Card上路。室友说如果你在其他地方丢差不多一定能找回,但是在加油站外地人多就危险了。苦笑。社会治安历年均全美top 10的Irvine能不能给我出现次奇迹呢?还犯了两个错误,上周留下的大量现金没取出;没有在钱包里留下联系方式。后来跟朋友谈及当时最合理的处理方式,结论是取消行程,因为丢了当时唯一的身份证件,我的学生证。 处理完后已经有些晚了想改第二天直接从Irvine过Riverside杀去San Gorgonio Via Vivian Creek好节省体力(之前还要求过搭他们的顺风车不想自己开,很多因素开始都是考虑到了的,后来却忘了,不老练),告之明天还得一起载人只好星夜北上。半夜三更405大堵车,后来才知道路中央死了人,看情形好像是拒捕击毙的,触霉头啊。 第二天掉队的事情就不讨论了,该说的我都说了,一路安全第一做得尽职尽责。现在想起Licong和Tong给大家义务司机的那会儿,更加感激。只是非常对不起同车的朋友们,一起折腾最后还是没找到大部队hiking泡汤。我错的是后来不应该在没有做够功课的情况下临时改开Big Bear Lake。当时考虑一个是大家扫兴想拿Big Bear Lake补偿下,一个是算了一下前后加油路程都差不多。吃一堑,长一智,拿旧车当新车开,拿car当SUV开,24小时内开400多英里(加上后来靠拖车回Irvine的路程)这种事情再也不会做了。当时比较明智的做法是在山下的小镇转悠一两个小时然后回LA,这样再上路前人和车都可以得到修整。小破车终于受不了这么折腾在快到UCLA Campus时罢了工。所幸人都安全,他们步行回学校,我跟AAA的拖车司机聊着天回了Irvine(幸亏Xu Yue等朋友们力助,否则要来个Santa Ana历险记LA版了,只不过这次自行车换了小轿车)。最后David拉我回家,还在韩国餐馆好好款待了下自己的肚子,本人的“24小时”结束。结论,不够成熟,遇事还是容易激动感情用事;继续要求自己抓住每个细节做好每件小事,培养更好的生活习惯和处事方式。 回顾整个过程,虽说衰神附体,但分析多个细处运气算很好了。从LA downtown密密麻麻的蜘蛛网,到San Gorgonio Via Vivian Creek和Big Bear Lake从海拔在1000到8000英尺间陡变的盘山公路都很顺利。每天开车上班的汽油没白烧,车技进步算很快了。想想国内上驾校那会儿,本人绝对是慢热型的。老实说,真的不想再开LA的破街了,旧且乱。倒是很想租辆敞蓬的越野吉普拉几个朋友去重开那段长长的山路——今天是我第一次真正感受到什么叫做驾驶乐趣——要扛着DSLR去,今天也是迄今来美所见到的最壮美的风景,在近万英尺的山巅俯视苍茫大地所获得的震撼远胜于远眺太平洋落日能得到的壮阔。不知暑假结束前是否还有机会也去完成徒步征服San Gorgonio via Vivian Creek的伟业,这口气总觉得憋得慌。 题外话 那个拖车老兄跟我聊为什么要背井离乡来美国的问题,我一边说为天朝脸上贴金的话,一边心有戚戚焉,害得我晚上跟家里视频聊天时心里又内疚了。Big Bear Lake码头上,认真听着Ying和Xiaofan对学霸牛人的讨论,触动关于我们那伙人大二大三那会儿的许多记忆。不知道是否最终也只能是历年飞友的翻版。至于自己,虽然老抱怨美国大农村,但一直清楚像我这样的背景还是先出来的好。那老兄还说AAA顶级会员的话车在日本都可以帮你拖回来,他有同事被派过去拖过。大家快去加入AAA吧!刚拜读了莎姐他们东岸杀西岸的壮举(见mitbbs四海为家版《自驾车穿越美国之西游记》),bugtony,一起过来口水吧! 后记 6号的路考应该没啥问题了。 July 25 A Tour around LA过来出差的Li Xu,Zheng Huan,再拉上暑期项目的Wang Ying,本人组织了个洛城游。百忙之中(做实习生也不容易)做好准备,捧着一叠Google Maps(谷歌地图打印版)和心爱的GPS Navigator(车载导航系统)于公元上周五夜八点半上了405。第一次一个人开freeway(高速),不过之前有SD(圣地亚哥)等几次经历(感谢Hao-Ju同学)没觉得紧张,之后变轻松起来多次换lane超车,九点半多杀到LAX旁边的Raddison酒店,见到了久违的旭哥。下405上West Century Blvd的46号出口的路标居然被涂鸦得一塌糊涂害得我不敢下开过头还好GPS马上算出路线只绕了个小圈。然后马不停蹄地去UCLA找Ying住的探路。话说那段路差得离谱不是我刚把轮胎全换了都要怀疑车胎出问题了;然后一个减速就钻进一个酷似玉泉学生宿舍区的地方——上上下下都是坡(都是超三四十度的),里里外外都是树(跟玉泉的好像),好好锻炼了翻坡起和平泊。比较无语的是从车里出来之后作为行人被滴,之后发现这些浙大交换生住的地方也真的是玉泉宿舍的水准,真的感觉回国了-。-# 接头完成赶忙杀回酒店睡觉,三个人挤双人间上次野营的东东又用上了。Raddison的环境和服务真的很汗,在天朝的分店不是这样的吧? 第二天按计划杀到Universal Studio at Hollywood(好莱坞环球影城),果然人山人海,在美国算是蔚为壮观了。Water World, Shrek, Studio Tour, Fear Factor Live, Backdraft, Mummy, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2。特别喜欢Terminator 2,记忆中的众人物在屏幕内外跑进跑出加上3D效果非常酷。那个液态机器人曾是小时候的偶像,为啥不多给他点戏份呢?于是乎州长大人的光辉形象天天在这里向全世界慕名而来的游客展示,怪不得接连毫无悬念地当选。鄙视Jurassic Park,恐龙制作得得比国内的某些公园还垃圾,主题不是让你回侏罗纪时代而是把你弄成落汤鸡,所以我跳下船后毫不犹豫地在小店买了件纪念衫换上。Studio Tour不错的,推荐。不过总体而言与期望有差距;美国的东西总是被捧得太高。 回来的路上US101大塞车,于是绕走local。大家临时决定奔赴星光大道。作为司机好好体验了天朝司机的感觉,绕来绕去始终找不到停车位;在街上爬油烧得那个厉害啊,后来估算了下比我从UCLA开回UCI还多!看到了许多美国电影里的常见镜头,比如在路边排队进night club的人们。GPS说前面就是传说中的柯达大剧院(每年Oscar颁奖的地方)了我迅速打开车窗(之前听BBS上的忠告在LA downtown不要随便开窗)好让朋友们拍,可是金人在哪里呢?杭州任何一家电影院都比这个气派,旁边的中国大戏院那点小门面更是比小时候那些录像放映厅好不了多少。至于所在的Hollywood Blvd(好莱坞大道)最多杭州文三路的水平,真不敢相信那个人行道上就是无数顶级明星名字和手印的所在!不过据说里面不错。 回酒店路上对一个十字路口没处理好,被拍了。很可能又要吃ticket,这回要argue了。据说警察叔叔们会检查照片和录像判断当时的情形确定要不要起诉你,不会像天朝那样只想着怎么装更多的摄像头。Anyway,阿弥佗佛,再消受不起了。 第三天先送了Xu和Huan,后来陪Ying去买了圈东西。在LA的高楼大厦间穿梭,俺乡下人终于进城了!不过城里人貌似不好做,这些在俺们Irvine农村一会儿就搞定的事情,在LA城没GPS相助哪里都绕得出来!结果没时间去看Hua同学了。 此行最有感触的一刻是从UCLA回酒店的路上,从LAX(洛杉矶国际机场)出口过。一个人听着悠扬的乡村音乐,小破车轻轻划过那个站台,一年前学生会接我们06级UCI大陆新生上大巴,继而开始下乡生活的地方。贾樟柯的《站台》(Platform)是我认为国产导演故事讲得最好的电影之一。那代人的故事我懂。现在,21世纪的新时代知青,正在体验着在南加州阳光海岸洋插队生活。同样是理想与现实的故事,怎样书写不一样的结局? July 24 Yet Another Ticket?Noooooooooo0000000000OOOOOOOOOO! I haven't attended the traffic school to clear my record for the last ticket. Now, probably another is coming. But I don't thinks it was my fault. In fact, I believe I made the right decision. The car was between 30 and 40 mph. And the traffic light turned into yellow when my car was less than10m away from the crossing. If I decided to hit the brake to make a sharp stop, the result should have been worse possibly. Therefore, I sped up my car to pass the crossing instead. However, the yellow light turned into red too fast and it was red at the moment my car passing the crossing. I noticed the flash of the camera; I was shot by it. So unlucky; you know very few cameras here. The point I'm afraid of is the speed limit of that blvd. It's wide but you know the speed limits at LA are always lower than those at Irvine. And I admit I was a little hurrying that moment, to send my friends home. I'm not an experienced driver. I talked about it with my colleges at the company. They said it's not necessary for a ticket; the policeman would check the records and then decide whether to indict the ones as suspects. One of them told me he's got flashed more than 3 times but no ticket followed. OK, wish myself lucky. If I receive the summons in following days, I will fight against it rather than plea for guilty this time. Anyway, after the experiences of driving at LA, especially the terrible downtown and student residence area of UCLA (which gave a feeling of returning to Yuquan Campus, ZJU; so many small hills), I believe my driving (and parking) skill has been improved a lot. In fact, it's my first time driving on freeway totally on myself. I learned a lot from the tour to Sea World, SD. Again, contribute it to my dear GPS Navigator and friends (on phone); otherwise I'm afraid I should have been lost at LA. You know I even went to some fuzzy park to practice the cooperation with my Navigator before the tour. July 18 最近开车(外一则)第一次滴就错怪好人,真是不好意思。从Harverd Ave左转上California Ave,前面一辆车转到一半突然停死在十字路口中心,我连忙一个急停。绿灯啊,前后左右扫视没有异常,也没有警车,救护车或者球火车出现——处女滴的机会来了——略犹豫了下还是按了下去。奇怪的是,又几秒钟过去,那车还是一动不动。受不了了,这样我也悬在十字路口上了多危险,于是打方向盘打算从左后方绕上去。大概车头挪动30度之后我也一个急停——一位老太太推着小车气定神闲地正在斑马线上踱步,还没走到双黄线。瀑布汗。估计她是红灯了才走的。而前面的老兄真是眼疾手快发现老太太有穿越倾向就一个急刹。于是一排车都毕恭毕敬地目送阿婆远去才敢动。 遇到疯子。Mac Arthur Blvd上左换lane准备左转上Red Hill Ave。打出左转灯大概五秒钟车身1/3已经过了分隔线,突然一辆银色BMW高速(目测超速嫌疑)后插上,从一米左右处擦过,着实吓了我一大跳。就算在美国宝马撞人也不用赔,侧撞之后八成你要滚到对面的车道上去,来个正撞擎天柱都挂了,你就不怕死么?——你不怕死我还怕呢!这样的人多几个我都不敢大摇大摆过马路了。来美国后最恐怖的事情。 准备预约考驾照。现在不跟路上的车子拼动感了,要把车开稳开规范,一次过。感谢中国驾照,感谢加州对中国驾照的优待(考试还有中文卷;据说是老美们认为在中国的大街上都能应付自如那么美国的农村里还不易如反掌?),感谢教车的师傅们;否则我现在还是困在campus当宅男。 和GPS Navigator磨合得不错了。就是这个便宜货反应时间偏慢,还是要瞪大眼睛找路口。如果开错了,Recalculating要半天。据说Gamin的好很多,推荐大家不要省那两百块钱。 以下摘自MITBBS,准备有空译成英文。 ==================================== 发信人: iamiqqso (到处流浪), 信区: Automobile 标 题: 人生好像一个开车的过程 发信站: BBS 未名空间站 (Wed Jul 18 15:19:37 2007) 人生好像一个开车的过程 最初,什么都不懂,觉得开车是一件很高难度的事情。自己第一次开,会紧张害怕,不知道下一步该怎么办。开头的时候,无处下手,到处碰壁。恐惧来源于对陌生事物的不熟悉。 渐渐会开车了,有的人向左转,有的人向右转,有的人向前继续开。有的人迷路了,因为转错了弯。有的人受到处罚,因为不遵守交通规则。有的人上了高速公路,有的人还在local的街道兜转。 在local的街道迷路,找个地方U turn就可以回来。如果在高速公路走错了,要make一个很大很大的U turn才能回来。 如果熟悉道路方向,成竹在胸,即使路上有少许阻碍,也能顺利到达目的地。如果不熟悉道路,又不事先查明方向,七兜八转很快就迷路了。如果在交叉路口犹犹豫豫,不仅阻碍别人,自己也很危险。 遵守交通规则。不遵守规则的人,往往就会发生意外。可怜无辜的受害者。遵守交通规则,不仅仅因为你受到法律约束,同时也是对你的保护。 路途不会一帆风顺,总会遇到红灯,stop sign。耐心等待。这些总会过去的。经历过了红灯,stop sign的等待,前方的路更顺畅。 熟能生巧。没有人一开始就是专家。唯手熟尔。还是新手时,到处碰壁,有的学费注定要交。 专心致志。开车的时候,可以跟陪驾的人聊聊天,但是眼睛不能离开前方。嘴上可以说说话,但是脑里要清楚要去哪个方向。不能忘记自己的目标。 找到自己的目的地。认清前进的方向。熟悉前进的路线。如果中途受阻,记得自己前进的方向。如果迷路了,不急的话可以欣赏一下沿途风景;如果要make个很大的U turn才能回来,live long enough to make the U turn。 WSJ: As China Grows, So Does Its Long-Neglected Navy华尔街日报:中国海军随经济一同启航 On one side of a rocky promontory jutting into the Yellow Sea here sits a ramshackle fishing village, its wooden boats pulled up on the beach. On the other, lie well-guarded berths that are home to some of the most advanced vessels in the Chinese navy: heavily armed attack submarines. The stealthy subs, their black conning towers and tail fins rising above the water, are one of the most potent signs of China's ambitious effort to modernize its armed services, particularly its long-neglected navy. Many believe China's growing ties to the world economy and its dependence on imported oil and raw materials will ensure China's 'peaceful rise,' as Beijing's leaders have pledged. But these same commercial interests -- and the need to defend them -- are also driving China to pursue military might. 'The oceans are our lifelines. If commerce were cut off, the economy would plummet,' says Ni Lexiong, a fellow at the Shanghai National Defense Institute and an outspoken proponent of Chinese sea power. 'We need a strong navy.' For Chinese strategists, the country's rapid economic growth -- which underpins the Communist Party's continued hold on political power -- and its military advancement are now inextricably linked. 'Security issues related to energy, resources, finance, information and international shipping routes are mounting,' says a government white paper published last December that lays out China's defense policy. In response, China says it will spend nearly $45 billion on its military this year, an increase of about 18% from 2006. It has also embarked on a ship-buying spree, acquiring advanced vessels from Russia, and also building its own. Over time, the strategy could remake the maritime balance of power, first in Asia, and then in the rest of the world. China's leadership insists that the world has nothing to fear from a better-armed China. The navy, known officially as the People's Liberation Army Navy, is still smaller and less capable than that of the U.S., which has more than 100 major surface combat ships, including 11 aircraft carriers. China has 76 main surface combatants and no carriers, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies. The Chinese fleet is also untested in modern naval warfare. But as China's navy becomes better equipped and farther ranging, it is causing alarm bells to ring in Washington, Tokyo and Taipei. The U.S. is strengthening its forces in Asia, partly in response to China. It is also encouraging Japan to boost its own military and naval capabilities, and is even cultivating ties with Mongolia, on China's northern border. 'The improvement in the Chinese military is significant. That is obviously of interest to us and to everyone in the world -- and appropriately so,' says Adm. Timothy J. Keating, commander in chief of U.S. forces in the Pacific. Much of China's concern stems from its dependence on foreign oil. China imports nearly 50% of its oil and is more dependent on imported Middle Eastern crude than the U.S. Roughly 72% of China's imported oil now comes from the Persian Gulf and Africa on tankers that pass through the narrow Strait of Malacca -- a strategic choke point -- between the Indonesian island of Sumatra and peninsular Malaysia. President Hu Jintao has referred to the potential vulnerability of his country's energy supplies as China's 'Malacca dilemma.' The country has no ships stationed permanently near the straits. China also depends on the outside world for a host of other raw materials -- from copper to coal and iron ore -- required to keep what is now the world's fourth-largest economy humming. Nearly all of China's trade moves by sea from the country's east coast. Many exports are carried by China's own burgeoning fleet of merchant ships. 'Economic globalization entails globalization of the military means for self-defense,' Zhang Wenmu, a professor of strategic studies at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, wrote last year in China Security, a military-affairs journal. 'With these complex and expanding interests, risks to China's well-being have not lessened, but have actually increased.' At the submarine base here in eastern Shandong province, there are signs of the naval shift. Submarines shelter behind breakwaters between sea patrols. Chinese subs have been detected in the waters around Japan and as far into the Western Pacific as Guam, site of important U.S. military installations. A short way down the coast at the headquarters of China's North Sea Fleet in Qingdao, warships -- including some destroyers equipped with powerful Russian-made guided missiles -- share the sprawling port with civilian container ships and oil tankers. For most of its history, China's military, the People's Liberation Army, has focused on defeating domestic opponents of the Communist Party and fighting along the nation's land borders. The navy had a relatively small role in that mission and concentrated primarily on coastal defense. Today, the navy accounts for about 13% of the 2.3 million people in China's armed forces. For the first 30 years of Communist Party rule, China remained primarily an agricultural country caught up in political upheaval. There was little foreign trade, and economic growth was so slow that there was little demand for resources from outside. But as China began to open in earnest in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a series of geopolitical shifts and China's accelerating economy combined to radically alter Chinese leaders' views of the kind of military the country needs. In 1996, during a standoff between leaders in Beijing and Taipei over Taiwanese moves to assert independence, China test-fired missiles near the island. The U.S. responded by ordering carrier battle groups to the area. China's inability to prevent this U.S. show of military strength and support for Taiwan rankled political and military leaders in Beijing. They started to develop what is viewed by the Pentagon as an 'anti-access strategy.' The Pentagon says it is designed to limit the U.S. military's freedom of movement in Asia and, specifically, its ability to intervene in any conflict between China and Taiwan. The cornerstone of China's effort is its elite submarine force. In recent years, eight new Russian-built, diesel-powered Kilo-class submarines have been added to the fleet, joining a growing number of new Chinese-built attack submarines, including some powered by nuclear reactors. The Kilo subs are especially stealthy and hard to detect when submerged. China's navy now has nearly 60 submarines, according to U.S. estimates. Some of the newest are equipped with Russian-made cruise missiles that fly at supersonic speeds when they approach their targets and were specifically designed to attack and sink aircraft carriers, according to U.S. naval officers. Some subs also have advanced torpedoes, which home in on ships' wakes at high speed. 'They've decided that submarines are the best way to delay a U.S. entry' into any conflict over Taiwan by threatening U.S. aircraft carriers, says Bernard D. Cole, a retired U.S. Navy captain who now teaches at the National War College in Washington and studies the Chinese navy. 'There's nothing harder than finding submarines. It's a very tough business.' China is also building its own surface warships, including frigates and destroyers, and fitting them out with Russian radars and antiaircraft weapons. Destroyers are the largest class of surface warship in widespread use by world navies. China's are equipped with guns and guided missiles and have a crew of 200 to 300. Frigates have similar armaments, but are smaller. China's shipyards have been working on two new types of nuclear-powered submarines, which are undergoing sea trials, according to Chinese naval officers. And late last year, China received the second of two sophisticated Russian-made, Sovremenny II guided-missile destroyers, adding to its tally of Russian-built surface ships. While the immediate driver of China's naval development has been the potential for conflict over Taiwan, its longer-term goals are much broader. Navy officers speak of developing three ocean-going fleets, one that would patrol the areas around Korea and Japan, another that would push out into the Western Pacific and a third that would protect the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean. 'The navy needs to be able to go wherever China has economic interests,' says one senior Chinese naval officer who spoke on condition of anonymity. 'China should have naval forces stationed at strategic points,' the officer says, even though 'this would certainly push China into more direct confrontation with developed countries.' China has helped finance and engineer the construction of a deep-water port in Pakistan that U.S. defense planners say could be used by Chinese naval forces in the future, giving them easier access to the Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf region. U.S. military officers also believe China is operating listening posts in southern Myanmar to monitor shipping traffic through the Strait of Malacca. China has also begun building a network of satellites that can be used to guide navigation by its own ships at sea, as well as to keep track of other countries' vessels. Chinese military leaders are even talking about building aircraft carriers -- which for decades have been the mainstay of U.S. maritime power. Concerns over the potential cost of building and operating such an extensive navy has prompted some national security experts in China to argue against it. These critics say China should continue to be a so-called free rider, allowing the U.S. and its global navy to bear the burden of policing the seas. For now, the sea power advocates appear to be winning. China's President Hu attended a navy conclave in Beijing in December. 'We should strive to build a powerful navy that adapts to the needs of our military's historical mission in this new century and at this new stage,' Mr. Hu told the assembled officers. China's expanding naval presence is already being felt in the Pacific. In October, a Chinese submarine armed with torpedoes and powerful antiship cruise missiles surfaced within firing range of the American aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, part of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, during maneuvers in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines. The encounter ended peacefully. But the admiral commanding American forces in the Pacific at the time, William Fallon, later told reporters that the incident could have 'escalated into something very unforeseen.' The U.S. is the only country that regularly operates aircraft carriers in Northeast Asia. And U.S. officers feel that China's pursuit of weapons that can be used against carriers has put U.S. forces in its sights. 'When you acquire those niche capabilities, it raises questions,' says one U.S. officer assigned to monitoring Chinese military advances. 'We're a little unclear on why they are focusing on those.' Adm. Keating, the new U.S. commander in the Pacific, says he is trying to get a better understanding of Beijing's motives and military capabilities. He is pushing for more access to Chinese forces and more exchanges and expanded joint exercises by the two navies. The U.S. is also strengthening its military posture in Asia. 'I don't think China necessarily has to be a threat. I don't think they've made up their mind yet,' says one veteran Pentagon Asia specialist. 'That's why we have to take a hedging strategy.' 菜是生吃的,鬼子店的菜真是干净我都懒得洗了,什么叫青翠欲滴,就的是说这些带商标的美国蔬菜!比植物园的花卉还娇嫩,嚼起来很爽口。想当年在KFC是我第一次吃生蔬菜差点吐出来,刚来美国那阵也不太习惯,后来是一个quarter的French sandwich和两个quarter的meal plan,Pippin和Brandywine的美式自助餐,这么大半年下来全生的蔬菜和半生的牛肉全吃得津津有味了。那会儿大家都被逼得紧,为了省时间省精力,CS的同仁们差不多都meal plan了;现在想起来这种东西都能吃那么久真是恐怖。当然其实也不是那么惨特别是Brandywine的pie和Pippin的fruits还是蛮怀念的。一个恶果就是好些人抱怨国内带来的裤子穿不上了;我都不敢称体重了。现在有机会重新试着做菜了,努力不再半途而废,要知道已经送了Tong同学两次油了,一瓶几乎没用过,一瓶真的没用过。自己做不见得省钱不过健康,就是费时间。有人说会做菜的男人很sexy,本人深有同感,而且觉得会做菜的女人同sexy;这次校友会野营大显身手的男女大厨们都很sexy。本人现在见正宗中餐必立刻两眼放光。还常感叹为啥全世界都是川菜的天下浙菜几乎没有,至少营养结构很健康就是不利于长肉。Anyway,想来这辈子难改家乡口味了。 废话说了那么多,说来说去美国的物质生活相当不错的。可为什么我们这群F1老叫大农村呢?个人觉得主要还是因为二十出头才飞过来观念和习惯已在国内养成,而书读多了的人多少有些倔脾气不愿老改变自己。成长环境差太多从小被灌输读书工作出头论的我们和淳朴热情的美国农民朋友们多半差异难消,现在依然在羡慕很大程度上可以根据兴趣择业的洋朋友们。记得有一次听Bush总统电视讲话,“为了维护我们的信仰,生活方式和价值观”,很有感触。 关于现在,关于未来。 July 11 Swimming at ARC and the Fine at OC Court今天去ARC(学校的健身中心)游泳,这么好的泳池浪费了三个quarter(短学期)真是可惜。就室内跑道、器械健身和网球场利用率稍高点,篮球排球乒乓球打过大于零次,羽毛球壁球旱冰球打过等于零次,最不像话的是足球场一次都没踢过,想当年在沙土操场上摔得皮开肉绽都要玩,现在放着草坪球场不去踢,罪过。 发现还会游,姿势也还凑合,感谢当年浙大的黄老师帮我从狗爬提升到蛙泳。那些外国老兄特别是游自由泳非常有美感,羡慕啊。Hojjact同学教我和Luker跳水,还是未得要领。陆陆续续游了几个来回发现上岸的力气都没了,结果弄得像Sea World的海牛那样肚皮贴着池沿爬上去的;体力退化得太过分了! 冲洗完毕刚套上衣服,突然警报大作紧急灯起搞得电闪雷鸣要我们立刻离开场馆。吓得我提起鞋子光着脚丫就往外跑。却发现老美们说说笑笑悠哉悠哉地往外走,管理人员也不急着清场,于是我胆子大起来坐下来把鞋袜穿好才重新起身。这时ARC大门前已经聚满身着各种服装的人了,还有好些操家伙的不知道那些刀剑是真是假。后来知道早些天计算机系楼Bren Hall也紧急疏散了估计同为bomb threat(炸弹威胁)。据说有个本本不想考final(期末考)就谎报bomb threat害得大家都得重考。 美国这种事情咋罚得嘎轻呢而ticket(交通罚单)却往死里罚!那天一大早开车带着传票去法庭伏法,本来想乖乖认罪然后说自己是学生哭穷好减免点保释金(美国是坦白从宽抗拒不从严),和蔼的法官大伯跟我说你这个算闯红灯(真是背啊我看到好些人stop sign不停死的;现在是乖了每个stop sign前必然停死3秒钟以上)的重罪一条法律规定没法给你减的。346的保释金已经够痛了,考虑到保险涨价的风险自愿上驾校于是403块飞走。就当见识了美国法庭长啥样——比超市热闹多了仅次于迪斯尼之类的游乐场,法官平均处理一个案例大概半分钟然后出去交钱走人,排队候审时我问旁边的洋mm吃过多少罚单了她说靠手脚数已经不够了。警察大叔还是很敬业的有人带可乐进场马上把手按在枪上冲了过去。上台前跟一个超级健康肤色mm聊天说这种事情让我老妈知道还不吓死现在还是情不自禁用中文写了——唉,加上换胎,summer session(暑期课程)注册,购物和郊游,如果不是credit line(信用额度)升到2500早就爆了。 其实现在开车的水平基本可以了老爹老妈放心,正准备去预约考正式驾照。国内驾照带过来换的临时驾照帮大忙了,现在每天开车去做intern(实习)的公司上下班。 p.s. 那个网上投票选世界新七大奇迹的活动日前正式落下帷幕。我一直以为这是一个流传的愤青帖直到BBC上看到原来是真有其事。记得我刚玩BBS时就有这个了,无语。 July 10 Camping and Hiking with ZJU Alumni 1补流水帐,Friday June 29, 2007 - Sunday July 1, 2007 第一天 南加州浙大校友会组织Camping(野营),地点Caspers Wilderness Park(Caspers荒地公园)。第一次从公司提前下班(5点的样子),其实那会儿(周五下午)鬼子早就快跑光了,一个老美激动地说,"Why I'm still here?!" 于是同开溜。 搭Kan的“别摸我”(BMW)杀到荒地公园,果然名副其实映入眼帘的全是荒地荒山。这边在搭帐篷,那边大厨们已经在动手了,特别是Kan同学绝对的新好男人是本人orz兼好好学习的榜样。吃饱喝足(终于可以喝酒啦)闲聊过后指导Prof. Smedley的小儿子Orion下国际象棋赢了另一个个小鬼头(俺现在也就剩这个水平了-。-#),然后去凑人头打双扣,在Hua同学痛快淋漓的bs中度过结果却把他们扣了,娃哈哈。过把瘾就休息,钻进帐篷滑进睡袋迎接睡神的到来好第二天有力气hiking;不幸的是睡神被同帐篷的Tong同学极具男人味的鼾声中吓跑(想到呼噜男们的太太都怎么过来的),甚至于好不容易进入昏迷状态又被硬生生地拉回来,加之帐篷外老有人悉悉嗦嗦可苦了我一晚上几乎没睡。 第二天 晨光熹微中迎来新的一天,与荒山野岭的第一次就这么没了。小孩子们在外面闹得厉害想多赖一会儿都不行,只好硬着头皮起来。忽然间意识到昨晚没山狮先生光临我还活着,那边突然说起来刚才3头鹿来我们营地散了会儿步。洗漱完毕又像小孩时候看老爸老妈做菜那样目光紧锁新好男人们做早点;最爱Eugene的煎饺不等凉一点就往肚里塞,应该算台湾风味吧?有年头没吃到这么赞的东东了。顺便聊起昨晚的呼噜据说隔两个帐篷都震到了,关在一个帐篷里共振的我自不必多说。 揉揉发福的肚皮准备上路(现已启动油变肉的计划)。太阳已经大得吓人了;那天我挑了帽沿最大的买真是英明。长袖长裤防晒油,出发! 没出多远就看到鹿一头,高兴过度手忙脚乱打不开相机目送她慢慢消失在灌木丛里最后只拍到背影。更郁闷的是之后几乎就没遇到什么活物了。太干太热了,好多仙人掌都挂了,只剩下风干的经络。 期间好几组老美骑马经过,那些马儿真是pp啊,好想也弄一匹玩玩!可怜我们头顶烈日脚踏沙土全靠两条腿,我老妈那伙人见了一定认为吃饱了撑着。很快发现开路先锋Elisa(100%杭州血统亚裔mm)和Aurora(中加友谊结晶)体力惊人,视南加的太阳如无物,履戈壁滩如平地,受她们老妈之托让我在后面好追;如果真跳出山狮(Mountain Lion)来还不知道谁救谁。 一行人在一个大桥下(如南加绝大多数桥一样,没水!)修整,午餐,然后决定分两拨一队原路返回一队继续前行准备登顶。 不一会儿我就发现形势不对,不再沿路有零散的灌木遮蔽完全暴露在太阳下土石烫得可以煎鸡蛋我的篮球鞋马上就发热了(本次hiking最大失败就是没穿hiking boots;也不能怪我,那天在店里找到的实在都太土了否则一定买了)。我最大的毛病就是怕晒太阳(绍兴人夏天睡午觉超猛差不多把太阳厉害点的时间段都睡过去了),从小不怎么晒太阳所以多晒一会儿体力就直线下降(以前踢球时就这样)。倒霉的是我们在下午一点开始登顶。光秃秃的山脊上都要成烤田鸡了,大家开始大量消费水突然发现人均才带了两瓶——把南加当杭州来hiking了。开始需要陆续休息了还得控制饮水,半山腰时很多人不到半瓶水了。怎么办?! to be cont'd July 09 Transformer!变形金刚,幼儿园里的梦想。感谢Michael Bay,感谢Steven Spielberg,感谢Hollywood,令我儿时的英雄们在IMAX的大银幕上复活。虽然美国主旋律大片的情节不是太喜欢(Steven的Artificial Intelligence依然是我目前最爱的影片),台词也不是听得很透所以没旁边的美国大叔笑得开心。还是希望大黄蜂是Beattle,爵士跟记忆里的形象完全对不上号;录音机是声波才对,红蜘蛛怎么搞得这么丑,威震天这把枪啥时候也成飞机了!如果照抄8x美版的造型可能有点土,但这个电影版有点太炫了打斗起来晃眼到什么都看不清。变形金刚的背景解释也和动画版差得有点多。个人最不满的是人的戏份太多,本来就在抱怨怎么就这么几个机器人,突然发现好几个霸天虎直接被美国大兵们干掉了。汽车人在花园里“躲猫猫”的一段很可爱,那泡尿撒得有创意。有点感人的场面则包括大黄蜂被Sector 7抓和爵士被威震天撕成两半。 汽车人全是GM旗下的主打品牌,eBay,Apple屡屡给大特写还有Panisonic的2G SD Card,估计制作方看过冯导的《天下无贼》。在美国住上几天就能马上理解美国人民对汽车的深厚感情,选汽车而不是更酷的飞机坦克当正派也就不难理解了。就一个例外——警车——大概美国老百姓最痛恨的东东了——Traffic Court(交通法庭)恐怕是我到过的除Disneyland(迪斯尼主题公园)等之外最拥挤的地方了!从Hoover Dam(胡佛大坝)到LA Downtown(洛杉矶市中心)好多俺亲身踩过的场景,果然Hollywood(好莱坞)就近取材。扯点题外话,美国电影的大城市拍来拍去就这么几个地方,New York(纽约),(Chicago)芝加哥,(Los Angeles)洛杉矶,(Las Vegas)拉斯维加斯,有时还有Washington D.C.(华盛顿特区)和Miami(迈阿密)。很佩服摄影师们能把Hoover小坝拍得这么有气势,能把Las Vegas的那条马路拍得那么金碧辉煌。 一定要找个好影院享受大片的冲击力要知道好几次座位被音响轰得颠起来;还有就是抓住情节和台词的细节,比如transformer一词还可以指变压器,剧中的妙用要反应敏锐才能享受到。希望日本的艺术家们帮我早日实现另一个儿时梦想,《女神的圣斗士》。 ![]() ![]() July 04 Tour at Sea World, SD前言 开始整治中英夹杂的问题。写完这个还要写浙大南加州校友会的camping和hiking。唉,更没人相信我们在美国受苦受难了。 正文 国庆放假。美国的,正式的名称是独立日。一直羡慕伟大祖国的七天长假。照例只有一天,我实习的公司居然放两天——发指啊!钱啊!谁叫我是钟点工!不过还是值的,我现在不是24,情商大概2^4=16岁的样子在海洋公园里玩得倒小了。 组织得辛苦,不过一行人还是在Independence Day一大早驾着我的小破车杀向传说中的Sea World了。一路上OC(Orange County)的太阳依然毒辣我穿着长袖涂着防晒油吹着空调依然不爽,进入SD(San Diego County)地界后突然转阴还下起小雨,突然间有回到浙北老家的感觉。SD的绿化似乎比OC要好不少,Fwy也不再只是光秃秃的水泥了。翻一座小山时遥望到一个依山而建的小镇,非常有味道,如果南加的房子都这样我就不喊大农村了。错过路口一个大U-turn回来顺利到底Sea World。首先映入眼帘的是还没我小时候儿童公园“激流勇进”(有人知道那个项目的正式名称么,水上过山车?)有气势的废铁,淳朴的老美们在那上面喊得那个兴奋哪。持网上订的票入场,安检还是走个形式,除了一些大城市和老城区美国的治安不错的。拿到地图把拓扑结构和时间等信息快速输入大脑立即计算得出准最优路线。看show(表演)为主,参观水族馆为辅。 Clyde and Seamore's Risky Rescue. 大概是美国式幽默吃得不够透感觉不是特别好。美国的海狮不顶球而是扮小丑,聪明伶俐得没话说。 Dolphin Discovery. 俺土人第一次见海豚,兴奋得哇哇乱叫。游起来非常sexy,跳起来非常hot。好想好想骑海豚啊(小时候看的日本动画片《小飞龙》里的情节是可行的),像那个假妈妈一样故意落水就好了。或者变回三四岁像那个真小孩一样去跟海豚第一次亲密接触(邀请一个现场家庭参加互动节目,爸爸和女儿是真的妈妈是工作人员客串的)。知道为啥前五排要勇敢者或者无知者去坐了还发塑料纸,原来海豚们会过来然后倒立用尾巴向你们挨个泼水。我们在射程外可以放心地抓拍,哈哈。 Cirque de la Mer. 说实话水平比中国杂技差远了。给全体中国杂技演员发绿卡吧。倒是露天剧场的背景非常美,阳光下典型的南加海滩,蓝天白云,水清沙白;俺也麦兜一回。 Believe. Shamu, 逆戟鲸/虎鲸,目前地球上唯一可以猎杀北极熊的动物,被老美训练得如此乖巧。整场表演设计成一个舞台剧,现场效果非常好,特别是背景故事很有味道,讲一个鲸鱼男孩,典型美国式的梦想成真的故事,待会儿去google下那个视频。Shamu跳起来更震撼,大自然的力量,腾空的一瞬间真是太美了——我不停地按快门希望能用手中的相机使瞬间的美丽永恒。全场跟着训鲸师做shamu式问好的动作——用尾巴泼水——就像人浪一样很好玩。Shamu打起招呼来太“热情”了,射程是前16排而不是海豚的前5排;一旁工作人员在卖浴巾,果然资本主义生财有道。散场后依依不舍鼻子顶着玻璃看着这些庞然大物从面前缓缓飘过。世界第一的训鲸表演名不虚传! Pet's Rule. 美国的宠物都是超聪明当人养很多还是上过学的,蛮好玩的。特别是那几头猪猪屁颠屁颠地跑狗狗障碍赛道太好玩了。狗狗腾空接飞盘也非常精彩。 R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse 4-D. 我估计国内的也建得不错,不过第一次享受立体特效还是在美国上次Halloween Eve在Knott's Berry Farm的迷宫和魔鬼作战。这次更狠颠我不算还几次把我喷成湿猪头。剑鱼真的朝我捅过来了,还有喷水和落冰块,于是震动,吹风,寒气,还有——真的往我脸上喷水!还好小男孩晕船后没朝吐,否则不知道又落下什么来。观后感是:为啥不把电影都拍成这样,那样的话看《变形金刚》还不爽死! Sealions Tonite. 海狮们是演员,这回还有海牛友情客串。海狮们总算顶了次球。再次感叹对美国流行文化不够了解,就知道有一段是在恶搞猫王,还有一段貌似是麦当娜。感叹海牛真是胖啊啊啊! Riptide. 现代舞,非常有活力,舞台效果很美妙。只是还有好多场要赶没怎么看。节奏感很好,有跟着跳的冲动。 Sky Blast. 也就是国庆夜焰火表演。我们是在Shamu Stadium看的,还不错。不过远没杭州的焰火节漂亮,天朝太有钱了。聚光灯在现场照来照去,照到的就有机会出现在大屏幕上,有个小美眉现场感觉特别好,发现自己出现在屏幕上立刻表演起来;我们前面些的一个小弟弟脱去上衣开始跳舞,导播就把镜头拉过来了,如果能借光稍靠后些俺就也能上镜了;可是没有。 Shamu Rocks. 美国佬把鲸鱼表演弄成露天音乐会,号称这次国庆特别节目全球直播,大屏幕上闪过好多国家但没俺中国,于是我大喊:"Beijing, China!" 不过想想国人都在寻思股票哪有心思关心这种东东呢。就像Las Vegas能从白天的城关镇脱胎换骨成晚上的天上人间,Shamu Stadium在超大屏幕和舞台灯光还有演员和观众们的热情下沸腾了,还有我们的主角鲸鱼们!因为鲸鱼太美,一直忙着手上的长枪短炮都有点影响观看了。最爱虎鲸的跳跃,太完美了,大自然的伟力。说点题外话,个人感觉虎鲸比熊猫帅更阳光更健康,虽然都是黑白相间十分可爱。 一个小池子里好多好多海星,大大小小五颜六色。看到男女老少都在捞着玩,我们当然也弄了几个试试。结论是,就像死的一样。以前以为海星大概乌龟速度现在看来可能连河蚌都不如。火鹤很漂亮,还有幸捕捉到鹤妈妈孵蛋的场景。本来还想掏钱买鱼喂喂海豚好拍拍他们的脑袋,可是队伍太长排了一会儿决定放弃。鳐鱼游人可以伸手去摸;我很快捏住一条,很好玩。鲨鱼们很好很强大,大的几条目测五米以上比小船还大。目睹黑影从面前缓缓划过不由想起大白鲨系列,有点不寒而栗的味道。还有其他乱七八糟的好多好多,有些海鱼俺还吃过。 快餐厅里解决午饭,贵。海滨餐厅晚饭,风景真好;望见一帅哥跟三美女在游艇上晒太阳,顿时发现人生有了目标,嘻嘻。 p.s. 早上开过去的路上表现不错,晚上回来开得不是很稳freeway上转弯时多次压线;在local还犯了几次严重错误,还好没出事也没被警察抓。开陌生的locol一定要慢速小心;尽量避免开夜车和疲劳驾车。顺便赞我的GPS,屡次立功虽然中途死机一次。 |
